Today me, Madonna, and several friends of ours did a special activity. We decided to participate in the Angel Tree and sponsor Christmas gifts for some of the listed kids. We chose two boys and bought tons of clothes, toys, and boardgames for them. Although we might have bought more than they requested, who cares, we had so much fun selecting things that they might like. It was a very satisfying moment when the volunteer had the biggest joy in her face.
What's really sad was that they were tons of tags still hanging on the tree waiting for that special person. Everyone just stared at us and walked by. If I had all the wealth in me, I would've been able to sponsor for more children. Unfortunately in reality, one person can only do so much. I simply wish people were still as giving as they were before the recession. Perhaps, we just need more sympathetic people in this world. Nevertheless, it was a happy morning for me and the friends who have participated.
I haven't really given back to the community since high school. I used to do a lot of community services with my grandma or even through organizations in high school. Along came college and I just kind of stopped. I wish I didn't do that because now I feel bad for the times I haven't contributed any when I was spoiled throughout the year. I think this embarks my intend to give back a little more to the community from now on. It felt good. It felt really good to be giving back. There is nothing wrong with sharing the holiday joy with others.
