Mother and Newborn Daughter

This past weekend, one of my former college roommates paid a visit to Houston with her newborn baby!  She Facebook messaged me just a couple of days before she was supposed to arrive, and I immediately told her I would meet with her without asking Z...ha ha!

Last time I have seen Madonna was back in November when she was still pregnant with her daughter.  It was great because it was the first time I had seen her in years; I was about to get married; she was about to become a mother.  Fast forward to 6 months later, Madonna came back with her 2.5 months old daughter Katrina.  Isn't she such a cutie?  I kept telling her she got all the good features from her mommy and daddy.  Selfishly speaking, I really just wanted to hang out the baby, but reuniting with my college roommate is a always a plus too.  Katrina was a giggly, happy baby and I can tell that my friend was absolutely loving being her mom.

As much as a scary thing for me to do, I held Katrina virtually all afternoon long.  We "talked" and giggled at each other.  I have this rush of fear when I hold babies - I always feel like I am going to drop them, or I won't hold them right so their head would bobble uncontrollably.  I guess Madonna trusted me, and I successfully tackled my fear for one day.  By the way, Katrina was scared of Z (he has that tendency with babies...) and we really thought it was because of his hair style.  I promise my husband is completely capable of being a wonderful father without scaring babies away.

It was a precious Saturday afternoon.  Madonna and I first met at Texas Tech 6 years ago, and we have been in touch since then.  The next 6 or 7 years have brought many changes - we both got our master's degrees, married to our college sweethearts, and now my friend became a mom.  I was a happy woman on my way back home, and I hope baby Katrina thinks she had a good time with Auntie Wonjee.
