On May 31st, my family had their goodbye with El Paso - our home of 11.5 years.
I will never forget the beautiful sunset each night, the gorgeous weather, places I went with friends and family during high school years, and the airport that symbolized my homecoming every holiday. During the 6 years I was away since I started college, I came to this home every holiday spent eating my favorite homemade foods and spending time with my family. It was the place I brought my first boyfriend, now my husband. I remember all the cookouts we did at our backyard and the amazing pool that made the hot summer so bearable. I slept in the same bedroom since high school and my pictures from elementary school were hung everywhere. There were flowers everywhere; my grandma had always brought me outside to show her garden and the new plants she got. Oh, and I will miss the mountains for sure.
The last time I was here was Thanksgiving Day last year. It was a month before I got married and never saw it coming that my family would move so far away just months afterwards. I will miss El Paso, but I will miss this home even more. This house is filled with memories - it saw me leave for college but always welcomed me back with warmth. I grew up here; my entire teenage years and young adulthood was spent here. I will this place dearly.
My family arrived in Buffalo, New York on June 3rd to their sweet new home. It was a 2,000 mile drive that took three full, exhausting days. It's a familiar territory and yet so new to them - their kids are all grown up, totally different neighborhood and demographic surrounding them, but I know they will love being back at a place they once lived two decades ago.
I wish I was there to help them with the move. Moreover, I am excited and anxious to see their new home - my new home.
