Medical students. vs Me

We were in Plano, TX to have dinner with Z’s friends he met during Teach for America. While we were waiting for the rest to arrive, the iPhone 4 was busy letting Z & I play Kungfu Samurai, a very addicting, mindless game that he downloaded few days ago. All it really required was a finger to act as a sword to slice vegetables; we, for some reason, thought it was very interesting.

Now we are back in my apartment with our stomach full from the all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. We talked a lot about medical schools as many of his friends took a route to becoming a doctor of some sort, post teaching career. I’m sure it was a very intriguing topic of conversation, but I honestly had no idea what they were talking about.

Z used me as his fake-patient (he took blood pressure on me – it came out normal) &  I learned how to take a blood pressure on someone. I know there is a formal name of that equipment but, naturally, I forgot what it is called. It was too long/hard to memorize. Sometimes, it’s nice to learn about something completely different from your usual interest.

I seriously wonder how med students could retain all that knowledge over the course of years. Perhaps that’s why I’m not a med student.
