The best husband award

Yesterday, after a rather tiring and seemingly long drive from Austin, I came home to a surprise early birthday gift from Z.  He and Lilly, who dressed up in the pink outfit I got for her several months ago, greeted me downstairs.  Once we got to the door he asked me to close my eyes, and then I walked into this!

Z got me a really nice, premium road bicycle!  First of all, let me explain the history of my bicycles.  All of my previous bicycles have always been a grade below the adult version.  Having short legs and small hands, it was almost impossible for me to ride a full-scaled adult bike, where I can stand on my bike or grip on the brakes completely.  The last bike I owned was in college, but my stubbornness (I refused to put my bike in the storage during summer break and then got stolen a few days later) led to losing my bike just after 2 years.  All of my bikes were pink and cute.  If you do the math, I have not owned a bike for nearly 5 years until yesterday.

What Z got me is the smallest of the adult road bike, decked out in pink and white.  There are a lot of components that I am not used to handling before (the way the handle is angled and how the tires are really skinny), but I'm excited to re-learn my biking skills.  I know he always wanted me to start biking again so we can be more active on the weekends, but I had never imagined that he would actually purchase a bike for me!  Z, my hubby, has always been best at buying things that I would never get for myself.

We went outside for a test drive inside the apartment complex and then ventured out to the neighborhood for no long.  Riding a bike for the first time in 5 years on a brand new bike, I was definitely a little bit nervous.  However, my muscle memory definitely kicked in at some point and I gradually began to enjoy the ride.  Z's bike will need some new parts/cleaning, but we are very excited to take our new rides to the outdoor on the weekends.  I used to enjoy long bike rides in Korea with either my dad or friends, so I am very thankful that Z decided to bring this memory back for me and make it our own activity now.

My grandma and brother from New York also sent me birthday cards and the world's most cute figure of a couple seal.  It is now being displayed adorably on our bookshelf.  When I called grandma last night, she said it reminded her of me and Z together.

So, let's just declare that I am the most blessed/lucky/spoiled person on earth right now.  I have the best, most thoughtful husband ever, and I just don't know how I am going to achieve the "best wife award" if he keeps managing to surprise me like this.  To think that he might have been getting clothes or a purse for my birthday was simply shameful of me.  And of course, I am reminded daily of the love and support I receive from my family.  Not that birthday is the only time of the year that I feel special or happier, but I am one happy girl.
