One of Yolanda’s biggest projects as a graduate assistant for the Orientation and Transition Office is taking in charge of the First Year Photo Project. It was done in many other universities, but she took the initiative and brought to our UNT students. Pretty much the idea is that a group of freshmen get to photo capture their first year of college experience throughout the year. Their work will be displayed at the Student Union Gallery over the summer. I think it’s a really neat idea, especially coming from a person who loves to take pictures.
Last night, Yo took her students to the backstage of the theater department, allowing students to take pictures and tour the center stage, costume room, makeup room, and etc. She then took them, and invited me, to watch the Choreographers Concert. We were mesmerized by the extreme talent and creativity of these young artists! After we sent the students away, the “adults” (me and Yo) went to Apple Bee’s for an adult beverage and late night snacks.
I’m happy to say that it was an enriching evening of arts and friendship.
