Over the weekend, my family (except for grandma) paid a visit to Galveston since I was already there to get some things done before I officially embarked on winter break. This was their first time visiting the town; in fact, this was their first time in 10 years to see an ocean. Living in El Paso didn’t give them much of an opportunity to see the coast, so I was thrilled for them to experience something new even though it might be an 800-mile drive for them to get here.
The weather on Friday was quite miserable – it was rainy, windy, and just overall cold. But we all still walked around the harbor side area of Galveston and found ourselves witnessing Pelicans and huge container ships passing by, things that we absolutely wouldn’t see in El Paso…the desert place in West Texas. I was especially happy to see my mom amused and taking pictures of the scenes with her new smartphone; she was simply too cute to watch.
We had a really nice dinner at Olympia Grill, a Greek restaurant, where we shared some of me and Z’s favorite foods. They seemed to enjoy a lot.
We then spent the evening at Starbucks, warming ourselves up from the cold, damp evening. It was nice for us to relax and enjoy the peacefulness. We also watched the new Sherlock Holmes movie…it was a well done movie.
