Mini-Vacation

I took a mini-vacation this week and took three days off since Wednesday.  After moving, getting used to the new job, marrying to my favorite man all just in the past 7-8 months, I realized that I was pretty much on a marathon.  As a school staff I got a week off in the last week of December for winter break, but let’s all remember that that was the week I got married, and all my married friends out there know that wedding week shouldn’t be counted as a break.  In my office, I wasn’t allowed to take any days in January off, so I had to defer until this month.

I didn’t really plan much.  Relaxation, catching up on errands, and a little bit shopping were some of the things I had in mind, but they were all subject to change depending on my mood.  I wanted to schedule several doctors appointment (for routine checkup), but I couldn’t schedule any for this week.  Oh, I did officially change my name on the social security card!  I am hoping the next series of name change won’t be as frustrating as my experience at the social security office.

Here are some of the things I did during my mini-vacation:

Cooking a whole chicken in the crockpot.  After 6 hours of slow cooking, the chicken came out so juicy and tender.  We just made chicken enchiladas tonight and will use it for other chicken recipes.

Shopping!  I usually don’t buy a whole lot.  I am afraid of spending anything over $20-$30 for clothing or shoes even if they happened to be designer name brands.  I haven’t had much luck with clothes, mainly because I have so many by now and tend to look for similar style, but I did score a pair of wedges.  It’s nice for work and super comfortable, and it’s size 4.5!  If you see any cute shoes with a size of 4.5, please send me a text.  ;)  I also got a hair cut, a much needed post-wedding hair cut.

Me and Lisa had dinner had Cheesecake Factory, one of my favorites.  Lisa is a student I used to work with back at UNT and a lot of amazing things have had happened to her already.  She has been offered a full-time position from her current internship, and she got engaged over the holidays!  I am so proud of her for everything she has accomplished and couldn’t be happier to see her and fiancé finally being together soon (her fiancé lives in Sweden and they have been in long distance relationship for nearly 5 years!)

Friday was a little bit more lazy.  Z had an overnight shift, so he got back home around 8:30am and slept through most of the morning and early afternoon.  It was a beautiful day in Houston; we took a walk at Hermann Park to get some fresh air and catch up on our conversation.  We love this park and blessed to enjoy the outdoors in February, while our friends in the Northeast are expecting another snow blizzard.  Praying for everyone’s safety!
