Bittersweet Moment

There are plenty of things I am thankful about life.  But right now is particularly memorable.  I am OFFICIALLY done with all my Master’s coursework as of now.  I just emailed my final paper for Higher Education Law…it’s done!  I don’t even know if I’m happy or at a lost.  Quite honestly, I don’t know a life without homework.  I have done a marathon consisting 4 years of high school to 4 years of college to 2 years of graduate school.  While I realize life isn’t going to be suddenly perfect (because there will be work-related and other stress I don’t foresee in the future), I’m excited about the drastic change in life from a student to a working adult (well “working adult” is in progress…).  Friday is graduation and I’m truly thrilled to have my family, fiancé, and supervisor at the ceremony.  There are so many more that I should/need to thank for during these 2 years of love & relationship with my life as a grad student, but I know that they have been the core of my life.

This week so far has been a bittersweet week.  While I’m graduating this Friday, so are my engineering students.  I never really realized how appreciative they were of me until yesterday when a group of students got me a gift.  I don’t even know how they managed to buy the pinkest body shower package out there (they asked for my favorite color a few days ago – I should’ve known).   It’s not that gift is the only sign of appreciation, but engineering students’ minds are sometimes difficult to read; as a young professional, I wasn’t always certain of whether what I did for them was helpful or not.  I worried if I wasn’t being the role model I should be and the person they would come for moral support.  Then, I think yesterday kind of affirmed my passion for student development.  These students in particular were some of the best individuals I’ve known.  I will truly miss them and look forward to how their lives will evolve after college.
