Family Hiking
We went on a 5-mile hike to one of the Organ Mountain trails in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After discovering this beautiful place, my family have been hiking at least once a month. I finally got the chance to hike with them yesterday. Despite how much I believed I wasn’t in shape, I surprisingly hiked very well and really enjoyed the experience. Sometimes living in the Southwest region, it’s hard to appreciate the type of nature we live in because what we consider typically beautiful scenes can’t been seen here. Sure - this region hardly has the forest, lakes, or the abundance of green but the edge of Rocky Mountain that’s seen here is quite breathtaking. After living in Dallas for two years, I’ve come to appreciate the mountains even in its most raw form. It was amazing to see the little creatures and plants surviving in such a dry condition; they were elegantly raw which was something I admired. The rich history along this trail was quite interesting – apparently some people once built sanatorium and resort in the early 1890s. It was a great bonding and relaxing time with the family, as I slowly concluded my last vacation as a student/not-yet-entered-the-real-world status.
