My future mother-in-law visited us in Houston until this past Tuesday, and we had a marvelous time. While Z saw his mother in December, it has literally been years since I’ve last seen her. I think year 2009 was the last time. We didn’t really had anything exciting planned, because Z and I gradually got busier each day with work. As a bonus, though, my future brother-in-law, Nan, was in town also for his monthly business trip, so she ended up hanging out with two sons.
We spent our days taking her to different Asian restaurants, hanging out by the pool, walking around Hermann Park, cooking at home, and watching movies. She and I talked a lot about wedding planning and looking through Z and my childhood pictures. She also gave me advice about retirement and benefits, as I was preparing to select with the my work’s benefits coordinator. Z got her a new smartphone, so we spent many hours teaching her different features and functions.
On her last night in town, we took her out to a Japanese restaurant where she had hibachi dinner. It was wonderful having her with us and being able to catch up years worth of life. It was really my first time to spend quality time with her and sharing small snippets of our lives. We are looking forward to seeing her again in December for the wedding!
