Power of Support

August is supposed to be one of the busiest and toughest months for admissions counselors as fall 2012 application deadline comes near to an end.  Each day is filled with last-minute applications, inquires, panic attacks (from applicants), perpetual emails and phone callas, and just simply strange questions you never expected to get.  Organized chaos certainly makes each day extraordinarily exciting and terrifying at the same time.  However, my first true chaotic/stressful month doesn’t seem to be that bad, thanks to all the lovely supporters.

Yesterday, I posted a message on Z’s Facebook wall that I was craving for sushi.  At that time I really was, but it was more of a common gesture I use around my lunch break (because I get hungry…).  Z apparently took this literally, and decided to bring a bunch of sushi take-out orders after work.  It was so unexpected, but I felt incredibly lucky to have a man who would do everything in his power to make me happy.  I was, of course, very happy.  We happily enjoyed our sushi dinner last night.

And then, there was this morning.  A few days ago, I had ‘complained’ that I couldn’t sit properly because I’m too short to reach my feet on the floor.  It is true – I usually don’t get enough back support because I’m adjusting myself to the level of the desk.  I always end up sitting on the edge of the chair.  My coworkers tried to find me something to prop my feet on, but we didn’t find anything immediately available.  A student who works in the office brought me this lovely item the first thing in the morning.  She initially found this by her apartment’s dumpster so she had took it back home and cleaned it.  Since then she didn’t really knew what to do with it because she didn’t need it, until she overheard my conversation with others last week.  This sweet, petite student brought this in hopes to help with my posture during work.  I was speechless by her thoughtfulness and didn’t even knew how to react.  I ended up giving her a big hug for her generosity and her caring nature.

It is all these little gestures of support and care that overwhelms me.  I am being reminded each day how lucky I am to be surrounded by people who genuinely cares about my happiness and well-being.  It made a difference on the rest of the day knowing that it’s selfish of me to complain my situation.  After all, there really wasn’t anything to complain about.  I have everything I need to get through the challenges I may face.
