What a fun Sunday Z and I have spent! What started out as shopping for Z’s new shoes turned out to be a lot more interesting. First of all, I started noticing how quickly Z’s black shoes were deteriorating ever since the start of his clinical rotations. His recent rotations required of him to dress in a traditional office attire, which is fine because he has lots of dress shirts/pants from teaching back in the old days; however, he only preferred to wear one black shoes this whole time. Long working hours on his feet naturally wore the shoes out quicker to the point it bothered me every morning I stared at it.
I finally forced him to go to DSW to get him a pair comfortable, and yet formal enough, shoes for him to wear every day. One thing we didn’t realize was that this weekend was tax-free weekend, so the entire shopping plaza was in a chaos. When it came to choosing a pair of black shoes, Z was completely clueless but did his best to find the right kind for himself. It was exactly what I was hoping for him to get – sleek and modern, but light and comfortable. And then I took the opportunity to bring up a fact that he only wears flip-flops regardless of the season or weather, and that he needed a pair of sophisticated casual shoes that can complement the occasional social gatherings where flip-flops aren’t the most appropriate footwear. Of course he was somewhat dreading, but we ended up finding something that goes well his look and the wardrobes he have. Score!! I told him he will never had to go shoe shopping again; well, until he has to find a nicer pair for the wedding.
What we also didn’t realize was that this month is Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW). HRW is a month-long opportunity for Houstonians to experience exceptional restaurants at a very reasonable cost, while benefiting the Houston Food Bank. About 150 Houston restaurants participate annually, providing both lunch and dinner courses at a set price. $5 of each dinner goes toward the Houston Food Bank. We quickly gathered our minds at a nearby Starbucks in search for our dinner at one of the participating restaurants. We eventually went to a fancy fusion restaurant called Soma Sushi, where we went through a marvelous 4-course dinner. We enjoyed exceptional foods and service surrounded by gorgeous, modern atmosphere. It was date night that none of us expected, but we spent the evening with great conversations and deciding next steps for our wedding planning.
We reserved another dinner through a participating HRW restaurant on Wednesday! We’re looking forward to another exceptional dining and hoping that we won’t gain 10 pounds in a week. Exercise will be imminent.

Your food posts always look amazing! I'm hoping that when we leave Lubbock we can move somewhere with food as good as Houston. We are definitely missing out! And it's cool that the restaurants donate some of the proceeds to charity everyone wins!
