Curiosity of the Month

For all women with family, or at least a husband, out there...Please attempt to enlighten my curiosity. How do you balance work and family and house chores???  I'm sure this is a question that remains unanswered for decades, especially in the world we now live in, but seriously...how do you do it?

I've been coming home past 7pm almost everyday since school has started. Part of it is that there are so many programming (welcoming students back to school and etc), it's natural for the first of month of school to be a little chaotic, but I really don't see rest of the semester getting any better. I realize that student affairs is not the only field that has late hours (with minimum pay...), but it baffles me that women can work a full-time, have children and a husband to look after, and sometimes take classes at the same time. When I asked some of my internship supervisors, they all laughed at me because either the answer was among 1) no sleep, 2) don't really know the answer to the question, or 3) they just do it.  I'm not sure how you can just DO IT.

I come home exhausted - I want to just order food for delivery but I want to be frugal with my spending; I don't want to clean my house; I certainly don't want to do laundry...the list goes on. This sort of behaviors didn't really bother me (ok, sometimes it did) until I got engaged.  I suddenly feel like I need to "train" myself to become more responsible and more adult-like.  Perhaps it's the traditional side of me that still strongly feels that the wife should prepare meals (at least for dinner) and maintain the cleanliness of the house.  While I do feel it's right to ask my future-husband to help with chores regularly, it's still the upbringing of me that makes feel more responsible on those daily tasks. Z sort of chuckles at the topic (he probably thinks I worry too much), but it's a serious conversation I occasionally have with my mom, as she went through a similar phase in life before.

Don't worry - it doesn't mean I'm going to drop everything to become a housewife. It's just a curiosity of the month.
