Preparing for the rain

Last time when it rained heavily and created mass flooding everywhere in Lubbock (remember last week?!), my poor feet went straight into the dirty water. It was cold, wet, and gross feeling for the remainder of the day.

Why? I owned no rainboots. A girl from El Paso did not need rainboots until she moved to Lubbock. It doesn't exactly rain frequently like Seattle or Houston but the flat ground does not help the flow of the water.

Then I heard a weather forecast tomorrow. A 70% chance of rain. I was not going through that horror again.  The shoes I wore last time was destroyed and walking around campus without socks with wet shoes was not pleasant at all. I decided to be smart, for the first time, and went to the shoe store.

Problem? The size of my feet. Kid's size 2. The first shoe store I went did not have kid's rain boots. I tried the adult size 6...big mistake. It was impossible for me to walk and most likely would've tripped on my own rain boots. I tried to mall - couldn't find a store with rain boots. Fail. My next options were Target, Payless, then Wal-Mart. Notice how Wal-Mart is last of my mind.

Solution? Let's just say Target saved my life. They no longer had adult rain boots but still had few left for children's. I tried size 3 first, just in case - failed again. For size 2, there was a pink one and the green one. At first I chose the pink then changed my mind very quickly. Not that the green was any more sophisticated or adult-like looking, but it was cute.

I never knew finding rain boots can be this difficult. I still found one, though. Wearing green rain boots will give me an excuse to act like a kid. Hopefully I won't be too embarrassed to wear this tomorrow at school. At least it fits my feet.
