For A Good Reason

Z’s impending arrival has resulted in an overstuffed fridge.  I’ve been grocery shopping the past two days, and trust me, we will be eating all of this relatively soon.  Reason that is so overstuffed is because I wanted us to lessen our frequency in dining out and embark on a healthier diet in general.  I focused on buying lots of fruits and vegetables, although meat is always involved in our meals.

I guess I sort of hit an age where health is becoming a greater priority.  Perhaps it’s due to my recent weight gain attributed to irregular meal schedule and high-calorie diet, but I think it’s because I am looking at others I know and starting realize that I need to take care of myself early on.

Dear Readers, when did you become conscious of your eating habit?  Has it always been a challenge for you to maintain a decent/balanced diet in conjunction with exercises?  I’m really looking forward to discovering ways to serve us healthy foods.

  1. I started Weight Watchers, and am SHOCKED at how much I used to eat. They have me on 33 points a day right now... which is roughly 1500-1700 calories, give or take. I've started walking/jogging about 3 miles every day, and I add weights in with that as well. It's ALWAYS been a struggle for me to eat right and exercise, but this has really helped me.

I actually calculated what I would eat on an average day at school, ONLY meals, on a day when I had classes and rehearsal for the opera. I came up with 116 points! Which, to my horror, means I was eating on average about 5800 calories in one day! And that doesn't even take into account any regular sodas, juice, or snacks I might have had during the day... only meals!

Needless to say, I've been sticking to this diet and have lost about 17 pounds so far! Eating out is the bad thing... expensive AND high caloric for no reason in some cases, even the salads! So good for you in buying food and planning on cooking. Stick with it and you won't be disappointed. :)
