15.5 hours and the aftermath

On Thursday I spent 15.5 hours outside, which consisted of a long day at work, a full 3-hour evening class (which can be so tiring after a full day at work), & an extracurricular activity.

Today’s post will deal with that extracurricular activity.

Saturday was my awesome boss lady’s birthday & a special one since she was stepping on another milestone in her life. Despite my boss’ depression with her upcoming age, me & student assistants in the office decided that something special for her needed to be done. My boss was already getting humorous but mean emails & cards from her friends, such as “you’re not old, you’re really old” & “so is this like your 25th anniversary of your 21st birthday?”, that gave her plenty of laughs & sadness at the same time.

Beginning a few weeks ago, we noticed a color that she seemed to obsess herself with: pink. She bought herself a pair of pink shoes, polished her nails pink, and recently bought pink earrings & a ring. She may had been going through a midlife crisis of some sort, but we liked the idea.

Hence brought me & my student assistant back together at the office…at 9pm on Thursday. During my evening class she bought all the supplies with anything pink & Hello Kitty (that was my idea) stuff she can think of. I came back to the scary-looking & dark Discovery Park building afterwards. We spent the next 2.5 hours decorating the entire office, from the ceiling to the floor. We had lots of fun at the time being but I knew I was going to be exhausted the next day.

After that crazy extracurricular activity that wasn’t even counted towards our work hours, we hurryingly drove to Kroger to get her a cake for the next morning. By the time everything was done, it was midnight & wanted to kill myself from tiredness.

Friday morning…

Me & all student assistants were there since 8am to touch up the decoration & prepared for her cake as she was stepping inside. We spent rest of the day working (a little), enjoying her cake (a lot), & talking about her plans for her birthday weekend. Of course she didn’t know that her boss was going to surprise her with a special something at 3:30pm. I already knew about it…I was part of that plan. (hahaha)

Each Valentine’s Day week, the UNT tuba players do a special fundraising. My boss’ boss requested that service & to be brought out at Discovery Park. It was wonderful to see my boss smiling throughout the day.

That evening, after work, some of the students affairs people headed to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate…involving alcohol. Oh, I ate 18 wings that night & impressed everybody with my eating skill.  :)

So half of the weekend has passed by & am completely, miserably exhausted. I slept as if I was never getting up (can 15 hours of sleep exist? lol). Clearly Thursday & Friday were exhaustingly long, I was really thrilled to see the boss, whom I love working for, glowing with happiness. I think she is going to keep our office just the way it is right now. I’m not complaining.
