San Diego - Day 1

Sorry for such an incredibly late update on our travel. Last night I was tired - we had a very eventful, busy day. We began our day 1 at a hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant, Island Style Cafe, for brunch. I found that restaurant from the website, Yelp, with numerous positive reviews. It was at a beautiful location and the food was superb. There was slight twist with a Hawaiian style cuisine, and the portion was more than generous. I would say we have enjoyed the food very much that morning.

{Mazda 6, our rent car for the week! It's a great car!}
{The pretty flower garden by the restaurant's parking lot.}
{I forgot what Z has ordered but the food was so delicious.}
{I have had my share of picture fun with the flowers that morning.}

After a stomach-filling brunch, we took a drive to the La Jolla area. I was told that the boardwalk area was beautiful and a great place to lay down under the sun. We weren't prepared with our bathing suits and the weather was still cool, so we just took a walk along the shore. What a beautiful scenic walk it was!

{We were enjoying our walk...very much so!}
{The building was rusty and old but looked artsy.}

We took a drive along the coast afterwards and discovered an area of fancy neighborhoods and boutique shops. We hope to return there sometime later in this week.

Our last destination was to the USS Midway Museum. It is an aircraft carrier that served until the early 1990's. I never realized how big a ship can be until I witnessed in person. It was great to learn more about the historic ship - in fact, it could contain up to 2,500 members. The flight deck was probably the best part of my adventure in the aircraft carrier [I don't know about Z, though]. The view from the flight deck was absolutely breath-taking.

{The USS Midway Museum}

{This was where the crew members slept...can you believe that?}
{All the fancy knots that crew members had to learn and perfect their skills on.}

{The complexity of the electrical wirings kind of scared me.}

{Many past jets/helicopters that serve under the U.S. Navy.}

{The flight desk was huge!}
{Standing at the edge really scared me. I am totally afraid of heights.}
{Another moment of truth - I am short. Look how I can reach the jet's lower wing...}

In the end, we were both very tired but had a rewarding experience. We were amazed by the beauty of San Diego added by a wonderful weather we have had since our arrival. San Diego is truly a great city, and we are very happy to be here for spring break.
